In the early Church, when adults were baptized they were also anointed with a perfumed oil called chrism. This anointing highlights the name "Christian," which means "anointed" and is taken from the name of Christ, whom God "anointed with the Holy Spirit." (Rev. 7:2-3) It is the third and final part of Christian initiation, which begins with baptism and is renewed each week in a person's participation in Sunday Mass. Confirmation strengthens the gift of the Holy Spirit received at baptism and is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once given to the apostles on the day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit is the Christian's guide throughout life.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a journey for Adults seeking full Communion with the Catholic Church through Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation. This process allows adults to explore their relationship with God through the Sacraments of the Catholic Church. The sessions cover Scripture, Prayer, Sacraments, Who is Jesus, Church teachings, Mary the Mother of Jesus, and the Saints.
